How To Spend 2 Days In VENICE Italy | Travel Itinerary Arriving At The International Airport
For a 2-day trip to Venice, use Day 1 to explore the iconic St. Mark’s Square area, visiting the Basilica, Doge’s Palace, and Campanile, and then head to the Rialto Bridge and market. On Day 2, explore the unique districts like Dorsoduro and Cannaregio, consider a trip to the islands of Murano and Burano, or enjoy a gondola ride and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.
Getting to Venice from Marco Polo Airport
- Take the airport bus (route No. 5-AeroBus or ATVO express bus) to Piazzale Roma, then use the public waterbuses (vaporetti) to get to your accommodation.
- Alternatively, take a water taxi for a direct but more expensive option, or the Alilaguna water bus for a scenic ride.
Day 1: St. Mark’s and the Rialto
- Morning: Start early in St. Mark’s Square to avoid crowds. Visit St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doge’s Palace.
- Afternoon: Head to the top of St. Mark’s Campanile for panoramic views, and then walk to see the Bridge of Sighs.
- Evening: Make your way to the Rialto area. Walk across the Rialto Bridge, explore the Rialto Market (if open), and enjoy an aperitivo (pre-dinner drink) and cicchetti (Venetian tapas).
Day 2: Islands, Arts, or Neighborhoods
- Option 1 (Islands): Take a boat trip to the islands of Murano (famous for glassmaking) and Burano (known for its colorful houses).
- Option 2 (Arts & Culture): Visit the Peggy Guggenheim Collection for modern art. You can also take a tour of the La Fenice Opera House.
- Option 3 (Neighborhoods): Explore the less-crowded districts like Dorsoduro and Cannaregio. Wander through the streets, and find local favorites like the Libreria Acqua Alta bookstore.
- Evening: Enjoy a final gondola ride or a traditional Venetian dinner.
Tips for your trip
- Wear comfortable shoes, as you will be doing a lot of walking.
- Consider a water bus (vaporetto) pass if you plan to use public transport frequently.
- Be aware of local customs, such as not picnicking on bridges.
