Arriving at Billings Logan International Airport (BIL)
Your journey begins at Billings Logan International Airport, located just 15 minutes from downtown Billings. The airport is conveniently accessible via I-90, exiting at 27th Street and heading north. Upon arrival, you’ll find car rentals, ATMs, Wi-Fi, and the Yellowstone County Museum nearby. For a smooth start, consider renting a car—many visitors find it essential for exploring the region.
Day 1: Downtown Billings & Cultural Highlights
Start your day at the Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center to pick up maps and local guides. Visit the Yellowstone Art Museum, featuring rotating exhibitions of regional and contemporary art. Explore the historic Moss Mansion, a grand home offering guided tours and live-action murder mystery events. In the afternoon, hike or walk along the Rimrocks, a scenic sandstone formation offering panoramic views of the city and surrounding plains. For dinner, try Burger Dive for a signature huckleberry burger or The Sassy Biscuit for Southern comfort food.
Day 2: Nature, History & Day Trips
Begin with a visit to Pictograph State Park, where you can explore ancient Native American cave paintings (free entry with a Montana license plate). Next, head to Four Dances Recreation Area, a family-friendly trail overlooking the Yellowstone River. For a longer excursion, drive 40 minutes south to Chief Plenty Coups State Park, the historic home of the Crow Nation’s chief. Alternatively, take a scenic 1-hour drive to Little Big Horn Battlefield, a key site in American history. Return to Billings for a relaxed evening at Montana Brewing Company, known for its award-winning house-brewed beer and pub fare.
