Travel Guide To Lisbon, Portugal International Airport Arriving In Lisbon, Portugal, Travel Tips
Lisbon’s international airport, officially known as Humberto Delgado Airport or Lisbon Portela Airport, serves as the main gateway to Portugal and the broader Schengen Area. It is located approximately 7 kilometers (4 miles) from the city center and is accessible via various transportation options including taxi, metro, bus, and shuttle services. The airport has two terminals: Terminal 1, which is larger and better organized, and Terminal 2, which houses the low-cost airlines.

For travelers arriving at Lisbon Airport, it is advisable to arrive early with necessary documents and to be aware of the check-in procedures, which include online, kiosk, and counter options. Passengers should also be prepared for security screening, which involves personal item and electronic device checks, and be aware of liquid restrictions. Additionally, travelers must declare items over allowances through the red channel at customs and declare €10,000 or more in cash or equivalents when entering or leaving the EU.

Visa requirements vary by nationality and purpose of visit. EU citizens can use a national ID card, while non-EU nationals should check their visa requirements well in advance of their travel dates. The Schengen Visa allows for travel within the entire Schengen Area for short stays up to 90 days within a 180-day period. For longer stays or for purposes such as work or study, a visa may be required regardless of nationality.

The airport offers various amenities including WiFi, cafes, restaurants, and duty-free stores. There are also bureau de change services in both departures and arrivals. Parking facilities are available for long and short stays, but using a taxi might be more cost-effective for those leaving the car for the duration of their stay. The open-air parks for long stays cost €5 per day.
When planning your trip to Lisbon, it is recommended to give yourself enough time, particularly if you are traveling during high season or using rental cars. The airport is relatively small and easy to navigate, making travel to and from Lisbon straightforward. For international flights, it is advisable to arrive at least three hours before your flight to allow for any unforeseen issues. For intra-Schengen flights, two and a half hours might be sufficient.

Travelers can find a taxi to most places in the city for no more than €13. Alternatively, the metro station located directly at the airport offers convenient access to the city center. The Aerobus also links the airport with Cais do Sodre on the seafront, from where you can catch a train out to Estoril or Cascais.
For those with early flights, the hotel might offer a boxed breakfast to ensure you don’t miss out on a meal. It is also recommended to notify your bank of your travel plans and check your bank’s fee schedule and daily withdrawal limit if you are traveling internationally.

The airport is served by numerous airlines including TAP Portugal, Air France, EasyJet, and Ryanair, among others. TAP Air Portugal is the official airline of Portugal and is considered more civilized and comfortable than budget airlines.
For more detailed information and assistance, you can visit the Portugal Tourist Information Desk located at the terminal. Additionally, the airport has storage services, lockers, and rest zones where you can freshen up before your flight.
Travelers should be aware that the airport is relatively close to the city, with most places in the city taking a short 15 to 25 minutes to reach by taxi. The taxis to the city are very cheap and well worth it, unlike most other city airport taxi transfers.
